Trans Fatty Fat Fat

I completely forgot about the ban on trans fats... you know the BAD FAT that makes everything taste sooooo good? Again, we the people are too stupid to make decisions on our own, so mama government will tell us what we can and can not eat...I know this is history... just keep an eye on the food police... as the push for nationalized health care continues... the ban on unhealthy foods will continue.

When we started this website in April 2003, trans fats were not even on the national radar screen. It was easy to maintain a trans fat website in those days, because so little was happening.

Since that time, our campaign has resulted in tremendous success. Trans fat content in the national food supply has diminished dramatically. There is so much news about trans fat that it is impossible to track it. For that reason, we are not keeping this website updated. Much of the information on this website is out of date. However, the health information is current.

More on trans fats from the American Heart Association.

Q: Why do some companies use trans fats?

A: Companies like using trans fats in their foods because they’re easy to use, inexpensive to produce and last a long time. Trans fats give foods a desirable taste and texture. Many restaurants and fast-food outlets use trans fats to deep-fry foods because oils with trans fats can be used many times in commercial fryers.

Hmmm... I wonder if prices are higher because of this.. And now you know why grandma's cooking was so freaking wonderful... trans fats baby...

Q: Are there any naturally occurring trans fats?

A: Small amounts of trans fats occur naturally in some meat and dairy products, including beef, lamb and butterfat. It isn’t clear; though, whether these naturally occurring trans fats have the same bad effects on cholesterol levels as trans fats that have been industrially manufactured.

Look, I do not argue trans fats are good for you. I will concede trans fats are most assuredly bad for you... How else does an Oreo cookie taste so stinking good? And MacDonald's fries? Well they haven't been the same... and you can tell when they haven't changed the oil these days...This isn't about whether or not trans fats are good or bad for you. This is about government telling the individual what he or she can or can not do. The precedent has been set...

P.S. Is anyone else creeped out by the first picture?

Taxes... Get Your Taxes Here!

President Obama yesterday (February 4, 2009) signed into law H.R. 2, a 4-1/2 year re authorization of the Children's Health Insurance Program (formerly State Children's Health Insurance Program). The bill is estimated to fund health insurance for the existing 7 million beneficiaries, and expand it to a net further 4 million at 300% of the poverty level with the most favorable federal matching funds. (I say "net" because it takes into account children who currently have private insurance, and a smaller number who have Medicaid, who will be induced to drop it and enter the more generous government program.) It had passed the House by a vote of 290-135 and the Senate by a vote of 66-32. Read the rest here.

The federal cigarette tax increased from 39 cents to $1.01 per pack on April 1, meaning $226 more in cost a year for the pack-a-day smoker. Read the rest here.

Ah yes... those evil smokers must pay... no one likes a smoker. Smokers like CEO's of large companies have been ostracized from society... well because they smell bad and they make everyone else breathe their nasty smoke. Well... this is still the United States of America and I thought we could each make choices on how we live our lives. This tax increase of course will hit you folks that make under $250,000. Congratulations.

Ah... here's a little reminder... of a promise made...

My question... what happens when there isn't enough revenue generated from those nasty smokers? I'd watch out if you are a Big Mac eater... you people are just as nasty... Don't you know that is bad for you?? But wait... it's all good... it's for the children.

Embryonic Stem-Cell Research

In case you missed this one...

From the Wall Street Journal, March 10 2009, By Robert P. George and Eric Cohen

Yesterday President Barack Obama issued an executive order that authorizes expanded federal funding for research using stem cells produced by destroying human embryos. The announcement was classic Obama: advancing radical policies while seeming calm and moderate, and preaching the gospel of civility while accusing those who disagree with the policies of being "divisive" and even "politicizing science."
